Classic Car Radiator Requirements
For a restoration or modified classic, first decide what must remain original and what may change. This requirements guide does not establish fitment for a particular vehicle.
Separate original features from modifications
State the vehicle year and configuration, then identify any engine, fan, hose or bodywork changes. A model name alone cannot define the installed space.
- Appearance requirements
- Identify visible tank shape, cap position and mounting details that matter to the restoration; mark which may be reconsidered.
- Available envelope
- Measure mounting points and clearance to the bonnet, fan and surrounding structure using an identified reference datum.
- Original unit
- Provide all-side photos and note corrosion, deformation or repairs that could make the unit an unreliable dimensional reference.
Review material and installation changes separately
Replacing a copper or brass design with an aluminum design requires a fresh review of construction, mounting and operating requirements. Material choice alone does not establish suitability.
- Validation plan
- Agree who will check installation and operating performance, under what conditions, and what evidence is needed before acceptance.
- Project decision
- Confirm feasible scope and commercial terms for the specific requirement before planning a sample or restoration schedule.
